RRB Previous Year Questions : So friends, I have given here the previous year question chapter of RRB Railway Recruitment Board. I have given complete details of Operation and Proportion. Please solve the complete question quickly.

1. If A : B = 2 : 3 and B : C = 4 : 5, then what is A : C?

Solution:
A : B = 2 : 3
B : C = 4 : 5
Make B same → A : B = 8 : 12, B : C = 12 : 15
So A : C = 8 : 15


2. If 4A = 5B, find the ratio A : B

Solution:
A/B = 5/4 → A : B = 5 : 4


3. Two numbers are in the ratio 3 : 5. If their sum is 64, find the numbers.

Solution:
Let numbers be 3x and 5x → 8x = 64 → x = 8
Numbers = 24 and 40


4. ₹120 is divided among A, B, and C in the ratio 2 : 3 : 5. Find their shares.

Solution:
Total parts = 10 → Each part = 12
Shares: A = ₹24, B = ₹36, C = ₹60


5. A : B = 3 : 4, B : C = 5 : 6, find A : B : C

Solution:
Make B same → A : B = 15 : 20, B : C = 20 : 24
So A : B : C = 15 : 20 : 24

6. If A : B = 7 : 9 and B : C = 4 : 3, find A : C

Solution:
A : B = 28 : 36, B : C = 36 : 27
So A : C = 28 : 27


7. A’s income is 5x, B’s is 4x, expenses are in 3 : 2, and both save ₹1000. Find A’s income.

Solution:
Equations: 5x – 3y = 1000, 4x – 2y = 1000
Solve: x = 500 → A’s income = ₹2500


8. If A : B = 5 : 8 and B : C = 6 : 7, then A : B : C = ?

Solution:
A : B = 30 : 48, B : C = 48 : 56
So A : B : C = 30 : 48 : 56


9. A : B = 4 : 5. After 10 years, ratio becomes 6 : 7. Find present ages.

Solution:
(4x+10)/(5x+10) = 6/7 → x = 5
A = 20, B = 25


10. Divide ₹1800 in ratio 1/2 : 1/3 : 1/4

Solution:
Convert: 6:4:3 → Total = 13
Each part = ₹138.46
Shares ≈ A: ₹830.76, B: ₹553.84, C: ₹415.38


11. Numbers in 7 : 9 ratio differ by 16. Find the numbers.

Solution:
9x – 7x = 16 → x = 8
Numbers = 56 and 72


12. A mixture contains milk and water in 2 : 1 ratio. Add water to make it 1 : 2. Total = 60 L

Solution:
Milk = 40L, Water = 20L
Let x be added: 40/(20+x) = 1/2 → x = 60
Water added = 60L


13. Boys and girls in 5 : 7 ratio. Total = 48. Find boys.

Solution:
Total parts = 12 → Each part = 4
Boys = 5×4 = 20


14. A : B = 80% : 100%, B : C = 125% : 100%. Find A : B : C

Solution:
Let C = 100 → B = 125, A = 100
A : B : C = 4 : 5 : 4


15. Speed of trains = 5 : 7. First train covers 400 km in 4 hrs. Time for second to cover 700 km?

Solution:
Speed₁ = 100 → Speed₂ = 140
Time = 700 / 140 = 5 hours


16. A gets 2/5, B gets 1/4, C gets rest of ₹6000. Find C’s share.

Solution:
A = 2400, B = 1500 → C = ₹2100


17. 12 pencils cost ₹36. How many pencils for ₹54?

Solution:
Cost per pencil = ₹3 → 54/3 = 18 pencils


18. Income : Expenditure = 5 : 3. Savings = ₹2000. Find income.

Solution:
2 parts = ₹2000 → 1 part = ₹1000 → Income = ₹5000


19. Triangle sides in 3 : 4 : 5, perimeter = 60 cm. Longest side?

Solution:
Total parts = 12 → Each = 5
Longest side = 5×5 = 25 cm


20. The ratio between two numbers is 2 : 3. If 5 is added to both, ratio becomes 7 : 9. Find numbers.

Solution:
(2x + 5)/(3x + 5) = 7/9 → x = 5
Numbers = 10 and 15


21. A’s salary is 3/2 times B’s salary. If B earns ₹12000, find A’s salary.

Solution:
A = (3/2)×12000 = ₹18000


22. A, B, and C share profit in 4 : 5 : 6 ratio. Total profit = ₹7500. Find B’s share.

Solution:
Total parts = 15 → Each = ₹500
B = 5×500 = ₹2500


23. A : B = 3 : 4, B : C = 2 : 5. Find A : C

Solution:
A : B = 6 : 8, B : C = 8 : 20 → A : C = 6 : 20 = 3 : 10


24. If x : y = 2 : 3, find (2x + 3y) : (4x – y)

Solution:
Let x = 2, y = 3
(2×2 + 3×3) : (4×2 – 3) = (4 + 9) : (8 – 3) = 13 : 5


25. A mixture of alcohol and water is in 7 : 5. How much water must be added to 24 liters to make it 1 : 1?

Solution:
Alcohol = 14L, Water = 10L
Add x: 14/(10 + x) = 1/1 → x = 4
Add 4 liters of water


26. In a bag, red, blue, and green balls are in 3 : 4 : 5 ratio. If total balls = 72, how many green balls?

Solution:
Total parts = 12 → Each = 6
Green = 5×6 = 30


27. Two numbers are in ratio 4 : 5. Their LCM is 180. Find numbers.

Solution:
Let 4x, 5x → LCM = 20x
20x = 180 → x = 9
Numbers = 36 and 45


28. Divide ₹720 among A, B, C in ratio 5 : 2 : 1

Solution:
Total = 8 → Each = ₹90
Shares = ₹450, ₹180, ₹90


29. x : y = 3 : 4, y : z = 6 : 7 → x : y : z = ?

Solution:
x : y = 9 : 12, y : z = 12 : 14

30. If a/b = 2/3, then (2a + 3b) : (4a – 5b) = ?

Solution:
Let a = 2, b = 3 → (4 + 9) : (8 – 15) = 13 : (–7)
Answer: –13 : 7 or 13 : –7


31. A : B = 1 : 2, B : C = 3 : 4. What is A : B : C?

Solution:
A : B = 3 : 6, B : C = 6 : 8
So A : B : C = 3 : 6 : 8


32. The cost of 5 pens is equal to 7 pencils. Find pen : pencil

Solution:
Cost of 1 pen = 7/5 pencils → Ratio = 5 : 7


33. If 3 men or 4 women can do a work in 12 days, find ratio of efficiency of man and woman.

Solution:
3m = 4w → m : w = 4 : 3


34. A train travels 360 km in 6 hours. Another train travels 480 km in 8 hours. Find speed ratio.

Solution:
60 km/h : 60 km/h = 1 : 1


35. The age of A and B is 2 : 3. After 5 years, the ratio is 7 : 9. Find current ages.

Solution:
(2x + 5)/(3x + 5) = 7/9 → x = 5
A = 10, B = 15

36. Two numbers are in the ratio 11 : 13. If their difference is 24, find the numbers.

Solution:
Let numbers be 11x and 13x
13x – 11x = 2x = 24 → x = 12
Numbers = 132 and 156


37. In a company, the ratio of engineers to managers is 7 : 3. If there are 150 total employees, how many are engineers?

Solution:
Total parts = 10 → Each = 15
Engineers = 7×15 = 105


38. A : B = 3 : 5. If A is increased by 20% and B decreased by 20%, what is the new ratio?

Solution:
Let A = 3x, B = 5x
New A = 3x × 1.2 = 3.6x, New B = 5x × 0.8 = 4x
New ratio = 3.6 : 4 = 9 : 10


39. If 3 : (x – 2) = 4 : (x + 1), find x.

Solution:
Cross multiply:
3(x + 1) = 4(x – 2)
3x + 3 = 4x – 8 → x = 11


40. A can complete a task in 10 days, B in 15 days. What is their work ratio?

Solution:
Efficiency = Inverse of time
A : B = 1/10 : 1/15 = 3 : 2


41. If x : y = 5 : 6 and y : z = 4 : 7, find x : y : z.

Solution:
x : y = 10 : 12, y : z = 12 : 21
So x : y : z = 10 : 12 : 21


42. Divide ₹5000 among A and B in the ratio 7 : 3.

Solution:
Total parts = 10 → Each = ₹500
A = ₹3500, B = ₹1500


43. The population of two cities is in the ratio 3 : 5. If total population is 64000, find the population of each.

Solution:
Total parts = 8 → Each = 8000
Cities: 3×8000 = 24000, 5×8000 = 40000


44. A box has red, blue and white balls in the ratio 2 : 3 : 5. If there are 40 balls, how many are red?

Solution:
Total parts = 10 → Each = 4
Red = 2×4 = 8 balls


45. The ratio of the length to breadth of a rectangle is 5 : 2. If the perimeter is 84 cm, find length and breadth.

Solution:
Let sides be 5x, 2x
2(5x + 2x) = 84 → 14x = 84 → x = 6
Length = 30 cm, Breadth = 12 cm


46. Two pipes fill a tank in 6 and 8 hours. What is the ratio of their efficiency?

Solution:
Efficiency = 1/6 : 1/8 = 4 : 3


47. The price of gold and silver is in the ratio 7 : 2. How much silver must be mixed with 42g gold to keep the ratio?

Solution:
Gold : Silver = 7 : 2
42 / x = 7 / 2 → x = (2×42)/7 = 12g silver


48. The weight of copper and zinc in a brass mixture is 9 : 5. If total weight is 56 kg, find zinc weight.

Solution:
Total parts = 14 → Each = 4
Zinc = 5×4 = 20 kg


49. In a class, boys and girls are in the ratio 4 : 1. If there are 30 girls, how many boys?

Solution:
Girls = 1 part = 30 → Boys = 4×30 = 120


50. A bag contains ₹1, ₹2 and ₹5 coins in ratio 6 : 3 : 1. If total amount is ₹400, find number of each coin.

Solution:
Let number of coins = 6x, 3x, x
Value = 6x×1 + 3x×2 + x×5 = 6x + 6x + 5x = 17x
17x = 400 → x = 400 / 17 ≈ 23.53 (not an integer)


Bonus (50): If A : B = 4 : 5 and B : C = 6 : 7, then A : B : C = ?

Solution:
A : B = 24 : 30, B : C = 30 : 35
A : B : C = 24 : 30 : 35
